HOSPITALITY AND SUPPORT
We get to know refugees and asylum seekers living in South East Queensland – hosting picnics, exchanging visits and phone calls and offering practical support to new arrivals and their families. Twice a year we run the Learn English Holiday program during which refugees and asylum seekers stay with volunteer Coast homestay hosts, while learning English and a bit about Australian culture.
By supporting and building networks with other community organisations, we are able to also provide asylum seekers and refugees with advice and, where appropriate, access to professional services, such as legal, medical and allied health services.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
We seek the truth about refugees and asylum seekers in Australia and we make this public in different ways. This includes public meetings and forums, talks to schools and community groups, and a fortnightly e-newsletter.
LOBBYING AND ADVOCACY
We lobby our politicians, write letters to the editor, and use publicity to advocate for just and compassionate treatment of refugees and asylum seekers.
FUNDRAISING
We raise funds and contribute financially to organisations dedicated to helping asylum seekers and refugees, thus maximising the comprehensiveness and effectiveness of the support we can offer. We also provide limited direct financial assistance to those in urgent need.
