We are the leading Queensland based Aboriginal-controlled organization that provides family and well-being support and legal services. We provide holistic support to our clients and communities that have been affected by domestic and family violence.

We support Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander people and communities to live free from harm, to realize their potential and empower them to be self-determined.

Provides a free legal service for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people affected by family or domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
Services include the following:
Explaining legal rights and responsibilities;
Information about various options & steps to solve legal problems;
Court support;
Referral to free counselling and support services including health, housing and financial advice.
Information sessions, fact sheets and resources on various areas of law including child protection, domestic and family violence, family law, victims assistance, witness assistance and sexual assault victim support

Community education:
Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Legal Unit is endorsed for DGR status.
To be eligible for assistance from Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service, a potential client must meet the following criteria:

Self-identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and be accepted as such by the relevant Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
The services provided will provide a direct and substantial benefit to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. For example, the client’s child.
The client (or the child who will benefit) is a victim/survivor of family violence or sexual assault.
Has a relevant legal matter with which QIFVLS can assist.
The client must not be a perpetrator of domestic or family violence or sexual assault

Located in Atherton Tablelands, Aurukun, Bamaga, Cairns, Coen, Cooktown, Hope Vale, Injinoo, Innisfail, Kowanyama, Kuranda, Laura, Lockhart River, Mareeba, Mossman, Mossman Gorge, Napranum, New Mapoon, Old Mapoon, Pormpuraaw, Seisia, Umagico, Weipa, Wujal Wujal & Yarrabah.

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people affected by family or domestic violence &/or sexual assault.

Children with an Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander parent, who are experiencing or have experienced family & domestic violence &/or sexual assault living in Queensland may also be eligible for services.
